Wrestling
Wrestling is for Everyone.
Collegiate wrestling, like freestyle wrestling, had its origins in catch-as-catch-can wrestling but by the 20th century became distinctly American.
We are excited to provide an opportunity for wrestlers of all age groups and skill levels. We look forward to working with each individual to help develop techniques and strategies that will work in any level of wrestling. Our staff looks forward to seeing you
Our Program
Our program offers a structured curriculum for all the different components that make a well-rounded athlete. That includes self defense, gi, modern no-gi, judo, wrestling and competition tactics. Whether you are looking to become a world champion, or simply just want to lose some weight while having fun, we have a class that can help you reach your goals.
Student work their way through the multiple levels of curriculum (basics, all levels, advanced and competition) to ensure we are meeting our students individual needs at their current skill level. We are not a “sink or swim” academy that throws everyone in together and see who survives. We put more of an emphasis on technique, drilling and positional training for faster and more efficient learning.
Our instructors all work together to provide a collaborative learning environment that has something for everyone.
The Journey
Beginners with zero to little experience start out as a white belt. White belts will start their journey in our Basics class. Similar to other complicated topics such as math, it’s important to have a strong foundation to build upon. Many high level competitors will tell you that it’s all about the basics.
The next rank up is blue belt, which generally takes about 18 months of consistent training to achieve. Beyond that comes purple, brown and finally, black. Earning a black belt can take upwards of 8-10 years. Keep in mind you don’t need to be a black belt to be able to defend yourself or to be able to enjoy all the other benefits that come along with training jiu jitsu. In fact, learning still doesn’t stop just because you earned your black belt. Jiu jitsu is a complicated game with never ending learning. Practitioners should focus on the journey and enjoy the process rather than worry about belt color.
